Can you even imagine a time without the internet? I can remember in 6th grade when i first became aware that i could have a screenname and talk with my friends online! Each night i would wait for my turn on the family desktop haha and then wait another hour for the stupid aol dial up to actually connect me to the internet (ahhh i can still hear those sounds of the dial up) and I thought it was the coolest thing! I look back on that now having wireless and my very own laptop and think how did i survive without my own computer! And it really hasn't been that long since I got my own just freshman year of college!
Also our parents! We have to teach them about all the new technologies! We being the younger generation have a responsibility to keep up with changing technology. My dad recently got a brand new 16 gb ipod nano for christmas and he had no idea how to use it! So i taught him! They taught me how to tie my shoes and ride a bike.....I teach them how to surf the web, use their ipods, text message on their cell phones, tivo!
Technology has changed so much in just the last 4 years (facebook is only like 4 years old!) I cannot wait to see what comes out next...flying cars maybe!!??
I can definately remeber getting into fights with my sister over who gets the computer next, I'm glad those days are over with. But it is funny the way we have to teach our parents about new technologies. I had to set up my mom's iPod and she always comes to me when she doesn't know how to work it right. My dad's no better trying to work his e-mail. But I'm sure when we're parents our children will be teaching us the new technology going on at that time.
ReplyDeleteAh, the old days of AOL dialup... I definitely do not miss them. It's so amazing how fast technology has advanced. It was less than 10 years ago when most households in America started getting dial-up internet, and now that's completely obsolete. It seems that everyone has at least a broadband line with wireless internet in their homes, and many people now have advanced cell phones that have 3G internet access. It's crazy that I can now download and stream youtube videos on my phone anywhere in the world, where 10 years ago I never even imagined being able to do this.
ReplyDeleteyeah I had to give my computer to IT for a couple days earlier this semester and I felt like I was cut off from the world. I mean, I couldnt look up any Derrick Comedy videos or find sweet pictures or even look up the news I wanted to.
ReplyDeleteI can't fathom how I survived before the internet when the answers to any question I have are right at my fingertips
Aha, yes, the days of waiting my turn for the computer. So nice having my very own laptop now! And funny that you mention how we have to teach our parents things now. My mom was clueless about texting when she first got her phone, but once I showed her that it really isn't that hard, she does it all the time. I swear, soon she'll be faster than I am!
